Work Hard. Work SMART, Be Obedient

19 02 2015

This week was pretty great! The Lord has continued to bless us tremendously almost to the extent that I feel guilty for it. There are so many small things each and every day. Some days I literally feel like we have a third companion walking around with us. We get blessed and I just look up and thank God for having my back.

We had our Multi-Zone meeting this past week and most of it was a review from MLC. So we had learned it all before but I still enjoyed it. Elder Child and I really wanted to take the principals that we were being trained on and apply them to our missionary work. Even if you don’t agree with some of them, the Lord will bless you for doing the things that his chosen leaders have asked you to do. It is so easy to get pumped up while you are at the meeting and then sink back into your regular routine once you get back to your area. But we were determined not to do that! We applied the principals and saw lots of blessings for doing so!

We went on splits a couple times this week and had some great experiences. Splits are awesome because you get so much more work done and it builds relationships with the ward members. It really gets them excited and fired up about missionary work. When I was on splits this past Thursday, I had two very interesting lessons…The first one was super awesome…we put this guy named Jarom on date. He has come to church the past 3 weeks now. He has been trying to fly under our radar but we finally snagged him 2 Sundays ago and set up a lesson. Apparently he was hesitant about meeting with the missionaries in the past but he was down this time! Blessings! But anyway…we had a super spiritual lesson with him and he is going to be baptized on March 1st!

Then we had another appointment with this less actives and her friend. Her friend was…interesting. My split was the 2nd counselor in the bishopric but he totally ditched me… He was on the other side of the room while I tried to deal with these two daughters of God. The friend, Allie, said that she was interested in learned more about the Mormon Church. Let’s just say that I’ve had better lessons. In the 30 mins that I was there, they tried to get me to go on a walk with them to get ice cream, she didn’t want to let go of my hand after I shook hers. She DEMANDED that we held hands during the prayer…super uncomfortable. Then she tried to take a picture of me at the end of the lesson. And her volume was on. So I pretended like I didn’t hear the snap…twice. But anyway…we will be passing them off to the YSA Elders because I was not down for that… haha.

Those experiences are super uncomfortable but they make each and every day interesting and unique, which I really appreciate. This past transfer I’ve really been trying to apply a principal theme of working hard, smart, and obedient. You can be the hardest working person in the world, but it’s really not going to do much for you if you aren’t working smart too. So as you really try to combine those three principals, everything becomes more effective. Obedience is a must. It brings so much power. Then when combined with the other two, nothing can stop you!

Anyway! I’m super tired so that’s all for this week! We had a HUGE cross fit activity with about 6 other Zones earlier today. I may or may not have started talking some smack to other zones about how no one could hold us in basketball. So we ended up having some pretty competitive and fun basketball afterwards and I’m pretty worn out! But we got the W’s so it was worth it!
Love you guys! I hope all of your weeks are great! I appreciate the love and support I get from you all! Thanks for your valentines gifts and packages! Have a great week!

“Shout out to them haters sorry that you couldn’t phase me”

13 02 2015

This week was so busy and so awesome! We had so much going on with various meetings but we didn’t let that stand as an excuse to not work hard! We found lots of new people to teach and finally got a couple of people out to church. That pretty much makes or breaks your week. When you see investigators coming into church everything else just doesn’t matter.

So I was studying a lot this week of how I can become more Christ centered in my life. I want to worry less about how the world views me and the things I do and be more concerned with how God sees me. What I learned is that if we truly understand our eternal identity and where we came from, nothing else matters. We become so much less concerned with what people say and think about us. I mean..think about all that God has done for us and all that Jesus Christ has done for us so that we can make it back to him. It’s pretty amazing. I know I feel loved. On top of that when we learn for ourselves what we mean to God, we are able to see that in others. We love them more. We see them as sons and daughters of God. When other people achieve something that’s really good, instead of being jealous of what they have we are happy for them. When someone says something rude or hurtful to us, we are able to shrug it off because we know that the most important relationship that we have is with God and His son.

It’s not something that comes easy. We can’t just wake up one morning and decide to do it, but it’s just like anything else. If we practice and pray for help, I know that we can become more Christ centered. It’s a decision that we have to make…to put off the carnal mind and see ourselves in a spiritual sense. We won’t be as concerned with what our peers, co-workers, teachers, and everyone else thinks. But we will understand how much our father in heaven cares about us and loves us. And that’s what makes us the happiest.

It also helps to surround yourself with people who will uplift you and have your standards. You can run with thousands of people but you can’t carry more than 2 or 3.

That’s something that I admit to struggling with while being out here. I want to pick everyone up, carry them into the church, and drop them off in the baptismal font. But I can only invite them to run with me.

I love you all and hope you all have great weeks! Thanks for you continual guidance and prayers! They are ALWAYS felt.

Jurupa!

9 02 2015

So I’m now in the Jurupa 2nd ward! It seems like this area has a lot of potential. They have struggled quite a bit in the past but I think we can turn it around if we work hard, are obedient, and show the Lord that we want to do missionary work his way. We found 9 new investigators in the past two weeks so that was really promising. We had such a strong week this past week. Everything was good so great but then the amount of investigators we had at church really gave a hard shot to the stomach. We had 10 committed but none of them showed up…I’m really hoping it was just super bowl Sunday that messed it up. Which btw…I STILL HATE the patriots…
We know what we need to work on for this next week though! We get to go rebuke everyone for not coming to church and figure out how serious they are.

Elder Child is super cool. He has been out for about 18 months and I’m learning a lot from him. We have a busy week coming up but busy is good! We have MLC, ZDM, DLC and a meeting with the president on Tuesday. President said he wants to use our area as a model for the training in MLC because we have a large teaching pool. That’s kinda nerve racking but it’s all good.

The family that Elder Child and I live with is super cool too. Well they have a 15 year old boy named Bryce and he is way chill. We have a lot of fun together. He always refuses to go out with the missionaries but I finally made him this past week. haha. I told him I was going to ask him a question and the first thing that comes to his mind is what the spirit wants him to do. Which means it’s what God wants him to do. I asked him “Bryce, do you think God wants you to come out with us?” and he instantly said yes. hahaha so he couldn’t say no to God. He ended up having a really great time too. We are also trying to teach his new girlfriend. haha. He says he doesn’t want to introduce us though because he doesn’t want me to steal her….Lame excuse.

They also have a nice weight rack at their house so that’s really cool. I can lift every morning and try and stay in shape. I threw up 205 on the bench pretty easily this week so…Weston you’re small. I know I’ve got a ways to go but just wait. I’ll come back bigger than you. We also had our exchanges with the AP’s this week! I got to be with Elder McConkie again and that was a lot of fun. I learned a tooooon! Including how bust the AP’s are. They are freaking studs!

Well That’s pretty much it for this week!
I’m pretty excited for the opportunity I have to be a Zone Leader. Our zone did really well this week and has a lot of potential for this month! They only had one baptism last month so it shouldn’t be too hard to improve:) haha.
The church is true, the book is blue and Jesus is a Mormon!
