JOSEPH’s Has Entered at the Gate!

28 10 2015

Another GREAT week in the CRM! Lots of meetings, exchanges, illnesses, annnnnnnnnd a BAPTISM!

Meetings are fun. They always are.. sometimes things get repetitive BUT the reason that we have meetings is so that we can learn. And what makes learning most effective?? When it is accompanied by the spirit! So even thought tomorrow will make the 5th time ive been in this SAME multi-zone conference i am excited because i know that i will be able to learn by the spirit and receive more revelation for my life! Its an interesting experience because i can learn something completely different even though the same doctrines and principals are being taught. It just depends on what the Lord wants to teach me that day!

Exchanges are fun…Its always a great opportunity to learn from one another.

Done being sick. Being sick is NOT fun. I do not want it anymore..but i feel good today! So hopefully it is finally over.

BAPTISMS are the BEST! Joseph is one of the most prepared people I’ve ever met. You see, Joseph was born in a time of great confusion. He often wondered which church he should join. So many taught from the same bible (unless you are one of the religions that just takes out some scriptures that you don’t like) but taught different principals. How could Joseph know which one was correct? Ask the MISSIONARIES! We will tell ya:) On a more serious note, he has had some pretty serious struggles in his past life but he is so intelligent and elect. He has been looking for a year and half for this gospel! After talking with sister missionaries in SLC for a few weeks, he finally gathered up the courage to call us! And I’m so greatful that he did! Because 3 and a half weeks later he has entered in at the gate! Joseph is such an example to me. He was so nervous that he said he felt like he was going to faint as he stood at the steps. But today he texted us telling us how GRATEFUL he was that we were able to help him make these steps in his life. So many other religions just wouldnt answer his questions that he had. But we love questions! So it worked out perfect!

Something else that really impressed me was the negative influences that Joseph was able to over come. His family wasn’t very supportive and wouldn’t come to the baptism, but he did bring his atheist friend… He came to church and to his baptism. But after church he said he had some questions for us. He was just quoting all of the same Anti-Mormon literature that I have heard my whole mission. But what impresses me is that despite this influence, Joseph still knew that this was the right path for him. Many life long members get consumed in that kind of information and fall way. But not Joseph!

Because his friend Andrew came to the baptism, we showed the video “the Hope of Gods Light”. If you haven’t seen it, I highly encourage it. It’s amazing. But I hope and pray that the video touched Andrew’s life. Because this gospel really does offer so much hope. Hope for a better life tomorrow. And next week. And next year. And throughout all the eternities!

Lastly, I wanted to talk a little bit about opposition. At time in our lives, we think that because we are going through opposition, we are doing something wrong. Or we just aren’t good enough. A hard burden to bear is placed upon us so we think we are failures as we struggle through it. IT’S NOT TRUE! Opposition is so necessary! In missionary work. In family life. In school. We need opposition. It is an integral part of God’s plan for us. I like to compare it to lifting weights because I’m a lot bigger than Weston now. When I lift weights, gravity says that those weight are going to fall down to the ground. It’s going to oppose the direction that I want them to go in. If the weight was too light, or if someone lifted the weight for me, I wouldn’t grow. I wouldn’t become stronger. In fact, the times when I gain the most muscle is when I have more weight that I can handle with MY own strength. It’s when I’m on my last rep and then someone forces me to do one more. And there is no way i can do it. Im just not strong enough. Then as I exercise my faith to do one more rep..as I believe that I will be able to push the weight back up, even though gravity says no, I have a spotter who lifts JUST enough to help me rerack the weights. Thats when I build the most muscle. And so it is in our lives. We face opposition. EVERYDAY forces push against us. So much so that we cant fight them alone. But just when we are about to break, we can call upon the best spotter, Jesus Christ, who has already lifted the weight for us. And He WILL deliver us.

I hope and pray that we can all learn from the opposition that we face in our day to day lives! I love and care for all of you! I hope you have the best weeks ever!

I Am A Disciple Of The Lord Jesus Christ

26 10 2015

I just love saying that. And thinking that. And hearing that. Its the best! I have it written on my bathroom mirror. I wake up and its the first thing i see every morning! It gets me too pumped!

MIRACLES! This week I was humbled and blessed to be able to return to my previous area and baptize one of my best friends.. Diana! Diana is Ahhhmazing! One day, I was feeling as if I wasnt involving the Lord enough in the work. I was doing the things that were asked of me. But I wasnt asking the Lord important questions. Like who, where, when, how.. So I did that. And I felt strong impressions to go to a specific area. A few hours later, we were scheduled to go by that area and walk around. We wanted to find the person that the Lord was preparing for us! Well we were running tight on time and were contemplating if we had enough time to go walk around or if we should just head to dinner. I’m so glad that we decided to walk around that area because after a short 20-30 mins of walking, Diana came running up behind us. So in reality, she found us. She asked us for a blessing. She was running late for her midterm so the fact that we were in the area was perfect! At this point I assumed Diana was a member..The terminology she used and understanding that she had was incredible! After the blessing she was in tears..She always cries…haha but she does it because she always feels the spirit so strongly! She is awesome! But after the blessing we were prompted to ask her if she had been baptized before. She said no.. I couldn’t contain my grin. Ear to Ear. Since then, she has met with missionaries consistently, had her house burn down twice..both the week of her scheduled baptismal date(Freaking satan…) been cursed at by her parents numerous times due to her decision to be baptized. Locked in the house once so that she couldn’t attend her baptismal date. And then finally! FINALLY she was baptized this week. And her whole family came to support her! The spirit was so strong. It was an amazing miracle and blessing from the Lord. So after about 6 months of trials, Diana, who we thought was a “just add water” investigator, has entered in at the gate!

On a completely separate note…

During meetings (which weve had a lot of recently) i look to receive revelation. These are things that have come to my mind. It’s amazing the things I feel and the revelation I receive. But before I started writing it down, I would just forget it. I wanted to share this because I believe that as we record the things that the Lord tells us, it shows Him how much we care when He speaks to us. Then He will speak to us more. I invite you all to write down the impressions that you receive from the spirit. Then exercise faith and act on them!

1. The single most powerful thing that helps us to overcome our fears and weaknesses is our firm testimony in the Lord Jesus Christ. Because He is the BEST.

2. Don’t look at people for who they are. View them as people who, with the assistance of the Gospel and Atonement of Jesus Christ, can become.

3. I am never done serving. Because of the Saviors Atonement I can receive increased capacity to serve. Just because I did something hard doesnt mean that I need a rest.

4. “The average person puts only 25% of his energy and ability into his work. The world takes off its hat to those who put in more than 50% of their capacity, and stands on its head for those few and far between souls who devote 100%”
My whole life, I feel that I’ve been blessed with the ability to easily adapt to my circumstances. I can become comfortable with assignments, tasks, and other things I’m given. This is a temptation to become complacent. I feel like I’ve spent a lot of my life and even parts of my mission giving about 25-40% effort. I can do better and I need to do better. Comfortable is now one of my least favorite words..

5. Read the book of Mormon everyday!:) no matter what.

6. Beware of pride. Humility is something I need to work on. It is something I will need to work on for the rest of my life. Pride is more than just thinking you are better than someone else.

Well that’s it for this week! It’s been an awesome one and I look forward to the next! Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! This is the best place in the world! Hope you all have fantastic weeks!

Love,

Elder Fischer

Brightly Beams our Fathers Mercy

16 10 2015

1. Brightly beams our Father’s mercy
From his lighthouse evermore,
But to us he gives the keeping
Of the lights along the shore.
(Chorus)
Let the lower lights be burning;
Send a gleam across the wave.
Some poor fainting, struggling seaman
You may rescue, you may save.
2. Dark the night of sin has settled;
Loud the angry billows roar.
Eager eyes are watching, longing,
For the lights along the shore.
3. Trim your feeble lamp, my brother;
Some poor sailor, tempest-tossed,
Trying now to make the harbor,
In the darkness may be lost.
I LOVE this song! I heard it earlier this week and it really hit me hard. I never really reflected on the meaning of it until this past time. Our Father in heaven has given us a very special and sacred responsibility to be the lower lights here on earth. There are so many people that are all around us who are being tossed around by the currents of the sea. They are struggling to find any bit of light to catch hold of so that they can know which direction to face. We have to be the lower lights for them to catch hold of. If we dont have our light burning then someone may be lost in the darkness. We have to always be prepared!
This week was really busy. Tons of meetings! New missionaries came in and got elder dyer and i super sick…The missionaries from the MTC always bring colds into the mission and infect all of us…super annoying but i love them still. haha.

We have another upcoming busy week. Lots of multi zone conferences and exchanges to do! so i dont have any time! sorry! i still love you guys though! Keep being awesome!

For making every missionary in the world super trunky and miss their mom! But it was a great talk so I forgive him…

WOW! Conference was amazing. I haven’t had time to review my notes and i don’t have time to talk about it today because of limited email time but everything was so good! These men are called of GOD! I checked.

The themes that I noticed reoccurring were…
1. Sustain our leaders!
2. Keep the commandments! This brings happiness, joy, peace, protection, sugar, spice, and everything nice.
3. Ask the Lord questions! Ask with faith believing that He will answer and with humility in your heart. Keep the commandments. Listen! Act with all diligence when you have received your answer and until you have completed that which the Lord has asked you to do. Share your experience with others. Show gratitude for His answers and pray for the knowledge of what to do next! What more can i do?! Loved that..

Elder Dyer and I also had the most amazing MIRACLE. This week we had a total of 7 proselyting hours. We had Mission leadership conference. Meetings to prepare for those. Transfer meetings. Multi-zone conference preparation meetings and then General Conference. So we were hurting on time to actually teach. Friday we were in a transfer meeting at about 2:30 and I get a call from an unknown number. Normally I dont answer when I am in a meeting with President Mullen but I felt prompted to this time. so I did. JOSEPH calls us and says he has been talking with representatives online and wants to learn more. I set something up for him at the church that night at 7:30. Joseph is amazing! He instantly accepts everything. He says he has looked for the right church for a year and a half. He knelt down to say the closing prayer and I’ve never heard a prayer filled with more gratitude. He was so thankful and told the Lord that he finally feels like he has found his home! And he even came to conference! The Lord is so good to us! This goes to show that missionary work really has nothing to do with the missionary. It’s doing things the Lords way. His time. His everything! We are just instruments! He is preparing his children to be taught. The week before we had a mission fast to be led to those who have not be brought to a knowledge of the restored gospel and their redeemer. We have been praying every hour of everyday to be led to the one that the Lord is preparing for us. And he did! It was such an amazing experience.

One last thing…I’m going to copy in a story from my companions blog.
“We were making transfer calls from the mission office Saturday night. It was getting late and we walk outside to the car only to find this big black truck parked about 20 feet from our car across three parking spaces. So naturally we look at each other, and run back in the office. At this point we’re freaking out because the truck wasn’t there 10 minutes before. So we spend the next 30 minutes scouring the office for weapons (for self defense of course). Unfortunately no one got the memo to stock the mission office with things more menacing than a hammer, a yard stick, and a steak knife. All this time we’re checking the window to look at the truck, still parked there. Eventually we decide we need to turn the lights out so that this potential carjacker or threat or whoever it is, doesn’t have the upper hand. So we’re freaking out in silent darkness for a while until we look out the window again, and the truck’s gone. Finally, to make a long story short, after many prayers and thoughts of all the possibilities, we summon up the courage to run outside with our hammer, yardstick (for range of course), and steak knife, jump in the car and drive away, safely. The truck made a surprise appearance Sunday evening when we were doing numbers at the office, but luckily I had my really bright flashlight attached to my belt, to blind any potential attackers :). So that’s why you always bring your flashlight, attached to your belt…”

This was an eventful week! As is every week in the CRM! Love this place! Love this Work! Love these people!

Hope you all have a great week!

Week of 9-28 The Big Fisch!

SOOOO with general conference coming up I decided to study a little bit about doing the will of the Lord. Many of us are awaiting answers to questions that we have. Maybe for direction in life. Comfort from trials that we are going through. There are various things that we all want out of conference. BUT in order for us to receive help from the Lord, we need to have a sincere heart and be willing and humble enough to accept answers that we receive. Humility is absolutely key for us to receive revelation!

Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

LETS talk about JONAH and the big Fisch. Above we read the will of the Lord for Jonah. He needs Jonah to go to Nineveh to preach repentance to them. Because they are wicked. Jonah gets scared and doesnt want to trust the Lord. I guess he doesnt believe that the Lord could prepare a way for him to preach to the people of Nineveh or something. Who knows! So he decides to scram! He grabs a ship and tries to run from….The Lord. At this point you can just imagine of the Lord is feeling. He told Jonah what he wanted him to do and then Jonah goes and hops on a boat.

And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.

So he sends a storm to shake him up a bit. The crew asks Jonah what they should do. Jonah tells them that it is his fault and they need to through him into the sea. So he is essentially giving up. He is recognizing that he messed up and the Lord is punishing him for not listening. So he jumps into the ocean, probably expecting to die whhhhheeeeen BOOM! giant Fisch swallows him. The interesting part comes in verse 17..

Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

The Lord PREPARED this big Fisch to come and swallow Jonah. If it werent for the fisch, then jonah was done for. So this is the Lord giving jonah a second chance.

1 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
We know as the story continues that Jonah repents, is vomitted up, goes to preach to the people of Nineveh, and what happens? These wicked people that Jonah thought would never change, repent and turn their hearts to the Lord. How much easier would Jonahs life had been if he had just listened to the instruction that the Lord gave him the first time! He could have avoided a lot of discomfort if he had listened to the will of the Lord and done it.

Something that really impresses me about this story is the thought of how Jonah probably felt inside the whale. He was probably thinking…”Man this is the WORST!” He was just trying to give up and drown and a huge Fisch comes and swallows him! Worst case scenario. But Jonah couldnt see the full picture. At the time, he had no idea that the Lord had sent the fisch to offer him a shot at repentance. A second chance to do his will. At many times in our lives, i believe we are sitting in the belly of a huge fisch and just thinking to ourselves that this is the worst. There is no worse situation than the one we are in and we have no idea why it is necessary. BUT we need to remember that the Lord has a reason for it. And although we may not be able to see it, as we repent, turn our heart to the Lord, and persevere with steadfast faith in Christ, we will one day be able to look back and see why it is necessary to go through the hard and trying times in life.

I invite you all to remember the example of Jonah as you approach conference! Learn the will of the Lord and DO IT! #JUSTDOIT. Dont question it. Or you will get swallowed by a giant fisch… Maybe not that extreme but your life will be much easier if you just do the will of the Lord. He will also be much more willing to make his will know to you as you are humble enough to act on the answer he gives you.

Hope you all have a great week! Love you all!
