Baptism of Angel!!

25 11 2015

So much has happened this week I don’t even know where to begin! It was week 1 so we had lots of meetings for incoming missionaries. I went on an exchange and was able to learn a lot from being with them. Half of the mission got together for a crossfit activity. And most important…ANGEL got BAPTIZED! Wahooooo!

The meetings for the incoming missionaries went well as always. It’s so fun to see them coming down the escalators. They are so ready to take on the world and there is nothing that is going to stop them! haha. Then we meet with them again about 3 weeks later. It’s amazing how much they grow and change in such a small 3 week time period.

The second most exciting event of the week was the exchange that I had. The companionship that I went with has been a little discourage at the lack of work that has been going on in their area. They have lots of potential as a companionship, but haven’t seemed to really tap into it yet. So I went in with the mindset of giving selfless service and helping them to have a spiritual experience with the Savior. The same mindset that we have as we teach our investigators. As we took on the day, we would do basic aspects of missionary work, and they seemed so grateful even at the slightest blessings of return appointments with potential investigators that we talked to on the street. It was humbling for me to be able to serve them and help them in their area. As I exchanged with Zone leaders in the past, many of their areas are already doing pretty well. So going out with other companionships is a whole new experience for me. They approached me today and asked me to come back to their area and be in a trio with them. haha. They said that in the 3 months that they have been together, this was the best week they have had with regards to numbers. Much of what I talked to them about was having faith and expectations that the Lord is preparing someone for them to teach. Then the day after our exchange, a member called them and said, “Elders I have someone for you to teach”. They said she is now on date to be baptized, came to church this week, and is just a golden investigator. They had so much energy and excitement today. It was such a great experience for me to see!

I also found out that someone I found for the spanish elders, while on exchanges, is getting baptized this week! I was down in Hemet and we were just not having a very good day..Nothing had happened. We were walking around a neighborhood that was dead. No one was out. Then, just as we were getting into the car, I saw a older lady walking out to her mailbox. She was about 6 or 7 houses down and on the opposite side of the street. But I was determined to find someone that day! Even if it was for the Spanish missionaries rather than the elder that I was on exchanges with. So I closed the car door and went to talk to her. We showed her the “Because He Lives” video and she broke down in tears. She is going through a hard time with her husband and said she would love to meet with the missionaries! This was about 4 weeks ago and just the other day, the elder told me she is getting baptized! So cool!

Lastly, Angel got baptized!!!! It was so great! He is the first one in his family to be baptized. We are now working with his brothers and sisters. But Angel is a result of missionary minded families! An awesome family in our ward started bringing angel to church and helping us as we taught him. If it hadn’t been for them, Angel may not have ever felt to joyful blessings of the gospel! And his brothers and sisters wouldn’t have the chance to feel them either!

I hope you all have a great week! I love you all and appreciate all the support and love that you give me! I love the Lords work! God loves us all above our capacity to understand. Jesus Christ is at the head of this church. Through his atonement we can receive forgiveness again, and again, and again. We can become what he wants us to become and we can return to live with them one day!

20 11 2015

SO! This last week I was pretty concerned. I’ve been in this ward for 7 1/2 months now. I had tons of people texting me and telling me I was moving. Everyone was sure that I was done in this ward. But, I’m staying:) That will make 9 months in the ward and I wish I could have 4 and a half more after that! I love this place. The only downside is that with every week that passes, I get more and more attached to these people. It’s going to make it a lot harder to leave when I eventually do.

Along with staying I’ve gained some additional responsibilities that I’m excited/ nervous about. I’ll be in a trio with Elder Dyer and Elder Westenskow. They are two of my best friends in the mission. So that will be a blast. But I was given a special assignment to “Light the fire”. Our Mission focus for the month is “getting the fire”. The excitement, passion, enthusiasm and love for the work. Basically, what I’ll be doing is running around the mission, conducting tons of exchanges with the most “flammable” companionships, and doing everything I can do help missionaries learn, grow, and love the work. To help them see that you can work and serve with all your heart, might, mind, and strength, and still have a lot of fun. Because this work is so much fun! I’ll probably only be in my own area about 50% of the transfer, if that. That concerns me but I know that I’ll have so much work to do. And as I serve my fellow man, I will find true joy and happiness. It’s going to be the hardest transfer of my mission because I’m going to be so exhausted. But it’ll be worth it. The exchanges that I go on will last 2-3 days. I’m normally exhausted after a 1-day exchange. But I know I’ll receive increased capacity and I’m looking forward to this upcoming transfer!

So that’s what’s going on in my life! We have outgoing and incoming missionaries this week so I don’t have any time to email! sorry! I hope all is well with everyone! Love you all!

Our Mortal Journey, MLC’s and Halloween

11 11 2015

Hope you all had a great Halloween! I know I did! On Friday we had a combined ward Halloween party with the De Anza ward. They are the Spanish ward for the stake and we share a building with them. We had a great turn out and lots of non-members and investigators attended. Unfortunately we weren’t able to dress up for the Halloween party…on Friday;)

On Saturday we had to be in by 6. There were kids running around EVERYWHERE and apparently there are no rules on Halloween night. Kids playing football in the street and what not. It’s chaos. Apparently that’s not a good situation for missionaries to be driving in…hahah. But we met at the stake center for a zone activity. ooooooooor in other words basketball. haha last year I watched the best two years. There were still a lot of people that did that. But I dont’ have time to sit down and watch a movie when ball is life. So that was fun. Other than Friday and Saturday, it was a pretty normal week. It was strange.. Well I take that back. We had to travel over to the zone next to us because some missionaries don’t like to follow rules. And there was just a huge blow up over there that we had to handle. It’s so frustrating sometimes! JUST BE OBEDIENT, WORK HARD, AND WORK SMART!  It’s not that difficult.. But I imagine that’s how Heavenly Father feels about me sometimes. I realized that as we were talking with the missionaries. It’s really sad because we want to help them but at the end of the day it has to come down to them using their agency.

For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.

One of my favorite scriptures ever is Mosiah 3:19. What we can learn from this is that “the purpose of the gospel is..to make bad men good and good men better, and to change human nature”. I view this scripture as our mortal journey.

First, the natural man is an enemy to God. To clarify, I dont think we are God enemies. Ever. No matter what we do, we are not the enemy of God. However, we are, in a sense, a diamond in the rough. So we are lumps of coal. By nature and as a result of the fall, we are lumps of coal. We haven’t gone through the refiners fire to turn us into saints quite yet. It’s necessary that we all go through this process at some point in our lives.

Second, we need to heed the promptings of the holy spirit. He is our guide who is constantly trying to point us in the right direction.

Third. We need to BECOME something else. We have to change our natural state from a lump of coal to a diamond. It is only Possible through the ATONEMENT of Jesus Christ. I love that at the very center and core of the verse we find the key to the whole process. Through Jesus Christ, the transformation is possible.

Fourth. He tells us how to do it! It’s all right there! Become as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, and willing to submit. That’s it. Thats all we have to do! See! No biggie! haha if only… But I know that we can develop all of those characteristics and attributes as we plead with the Father for help in doing so. It’s something that we will always be working on. But life would be pretty boring if we didnt have anything to work on!

I’m grateful to be at such an amazing point in my life where I have the opportunity to really focus on others and in turn, going through this great transformation process. I hope and pray that you all are constantly working to not be lumps of coal..haha love you all!

This past week we had MLC! Our mission leadership councils are always a blast. This time we decided to do things a little differently and have more of a council. In the past, it has been more a training meeting. Then the Zone Leaders take the training back to their zones. But with the changes everyone seemed to be much more engaged and involved as we discussed how we could best improve and serve the missionaries in this mission. So that was fun! The preparation for those meetings are always a blast as well. This past Wednesday we were on the way home at about 1:30 am… Then we were up and at it about 6:00 am! We spend many sleepless nights getting ready for MLC and then it comes and goes so quickly. But it’s a lot of fun and is an enjoyable experience.

We played Ultimate Frisbee today for Pday…My highlight was a full sprint dive into the end zone to catch the frisbee. which I did catch. My bishop praised me and bowed down for a bit. He is pretty awesome and comes to every single one of our pday activities. Buuuuuut I also hurt my thumb pretty bad but you don’t need thumbs for missionary work:) so I’m ok. hahaha. jk it’s not even that bad.

This week i have been reading and studying a lot about the Atonement. Especially in the Book of Mormon. Some of my favorite passages that I’ve studied thus far are in Mosiah 3 and 4. I have a slight obsession with king Benjamin’s address.. I don’t have much time to talk about it this week. Hopefully I’ll have more time next week. I just love the Book of Mormon so much. The doctrines and principals contained within it really do change lives. They have changed my life and I’m so grateful for everything that I have learned about the Savior. I know that Jesus Christ is the Savior. I know that it is only through his atonement that we are redeemed from the fall. He is the light and the way back to our Father. If you have ever had doubts, questions, challenges, or concerns. They can be solved by reading/studying about what the Savior has done for us. Specifically in the Book of Mormon. So read it!

Love you guys! Hope all is well! Have a great week!
